Sustainability in the design industry means creating timeless designs, using recycled papers and earth-friendly inks while printing while also cutting down carbon emissions by choosing green web hosts and keeping your working studio resource friendly (e.g. solar panels, eco-lights & more).
Additionally, sustainability in design means conversing to printers and sourcing information about their printer presses in order to create more content on one sheet of card (e.g. reducing the size of a brochure in order to fit 10 copies on the sheet instead of 7) etc.)
An example of sustainability in design is the La Page calendar that is released every year in Barcelona, Spain. They’re sustainable as they use a low grammage paper (60 g) which allows them to enhance transparency features throughout the calendar. They also use resusable materials such as paper and aluminium spirals. They don’t use adhesives to bound their calendar.
